Purpose of LAP
When WMS became a public conversion charter school in June 2003, LAP became a very important part of school governance. LAP provides all stakeholders (families, faculty, staff and community) an opportunity to provide input, share concerns and support student learning. LAP is advisory. According to our Bylaws, LAP consists of 3 family members, 3 teachers, 2 classified staff, the school principal, and the community development director, Ho’okako’o Corporation staff and board members, and 5 community members. All representatives except community members are self-nominated and then an election is held by their respective stakeholder group. Once elected, these names will be forwarded by the principal to Ho’okako’o Corp. for affirmation.

LAP meets monthly - the date and times to be set at the start of each school year by the group. Meetings are occasionally rescheduled to avoid conflicting with holidays and other important meetings or school events. All meetings are open to everyone, and both the meeting dates and agendas are posted in advance on the school website. All meetings provide an opportunity for interested parties to speak and bring up issues or concerns.

Family members are asked to consider nominating themselves. Regular attendance at LAP meetings is required.

For more info, please call Principal Janice English (887-6090 Ext. 225), call LAP Chair Jane Sherwood (896-0944), or Director of Community Development Patti Cook (937-2833).
