The new school year is in full gear! After-school Cross Country practice starts today...VEX Robotics tomorrow...and before-school Hot Chocolate Club! and after-school Homework Help start next week!  Weʻre still accepting sign ups for both Cross Country and Volleyball, too.  Please go to the ACTIVITIES tab above for more details or stop by/call the school office.  For athletics activities, please see Coach Tamaye.

Also, all students today attended a briefing by crew members from Na Kalaii Waʻa voyaging ʻohana to introduce an opportunity to apply to become part of HOLOKAI - a year-long student cohort to learn about and help sustain our Hawaiian voyaging traditions!  Thirty students will meet throughout the year on weekends and breaks with captains and crew of Makaliʻi for hands-on canoe activities to prepare them for a final sail to Mokumanamana in the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands.  Cultural experts and community resources will share the history of the canoe and the meaning of "He waʻa he moku, he moku he waʻa" - "The canoe is our island, our island is the canoe."

This program is for grades 6-12 students; there is a $25 registration fee once accepted.  it requires a medical clearance prior to the first session.  To learn more, families and students are invited to an Orientation at 5:30 p.m., Fri., Aug 17.  Location TBD.  Or, please email ʻIke Hawaiʻi Resource Teacher (887-6090 Ext. 248).  Kumu Cherise will let applicants know where Friday evening meeting is to be held.

One last note:  This Friday is Statehood Day - no school for students.  That's it for now!
