Staff Bulletin - Sept. 28, 2012

posted Sep 28, 2012, 11:57 AM by Matt Horne

Please refer to the new discipline flow chart effective October 8, 2012.  Jamie will be stepping out of his student discipline role to focus more on student support.

This morning, I e-mailed a latest version of a working draft of a strategic planning document for WMS.  A clear, easy to communicate plan will not only help us all paddle together in the same direction, but will also align and streamline reporting to HC, KS, Title 1, other charter school and federal programs, etc.   Faculty, staff, community, and other input is essential to align priorities during the accreditation process.

Please refer to an e-mail I sent out this morning with a detailed explanation of why we’re going with eSIS reports, exclusively.  We'll continue to use Jupiter Grades for online reporting and mid-terms, but quarter and semester grades (because more final) warrant the use of eSIS printouts exclusively.  The timeline hasn't changed:

  1. Jupiter Grades should be completed and "locked' by the 10/11.

  2. Final quarter grades should be entered and verified in eSIS as they have in the past by 10/11.

  3. Betty will print out eSIS verification as in the past.

  4. On the week of October 15 the office will mail the following:

    a. eSIS report card

    b. ELL narrative (if appropriate)

    c. Jupiter Grades deficiency reports for students earning Ds or Fs

Please refer to the Sept. 24 memo to all staff outlining the Accreditation process moving forward.   The two important points are: 1) the Oct. 17 full-faculty meeting has been changed to an accreditation workgroup meeting, and 2) the final reporting out from workgroups will not happen until the Dec. 17 P/C Day.

KUDOS (this section will never be comprehensive, but definitely representative)

·    A big THANK YOU to everyone involved in planning/executing today’s End-Of-1st Quarter Activity Day!

·    Kudos to Helene, Patti, Nancy, and Nau’i for helping with Wednesday night’s ELL-MEP Family Night.  Modest attendance but quality time spent with families/students who attended including helping the adults learn about JupiterGrades, TeenBiz, ALEKS.

·    All who participated in this month’s LAP meeting, which included meeting Ho’okako’o Corp’s new Board Chair Pauline Lo Bailey and discussing, in particular, LAP ByLaws/Charter and school-LSB relationships/communications.  A very good discussion.  Also good to have Mrs. Bailey attend an Accreditation Focus Group meeting to discuss governance issues/opportunities.   A subcommittee was formed to prepare a revised draft of the WMS LAP Charter and LAP ByLaws for further review/discussion by faculty-staff and LAP.  Committee includes Pete Hendricks, Laz, Patti Cook, Matt Horne.   Next LAP meeting:  Mon., Oct. 29.
