Project-Based Learning

Project Based Learning is a teaching method in which students gain knowledge and skills by working for an extended period of time to investigate and respond to an authentic, engaging, and complex question, problem, or challenge.  At Waimea Middle School, grade level teams work together to design integrated lessons/units with a place-based focus.

CORRECTION Re: News Story:  Our Wahi Pana project in partnership with Utah State University and Mid Pac Academy introduces students to a wide range of technology options in addition to mapping to design solutions to authentic place-based issues.  The partnership provides teacher professional development to better serve the unique needs and challenges of our student population by structuring intellectually rigorous experiences that are also culturally and personally meaningful and therefore, more engaging.
