WMS Title I - Comprehensive Academic Plan
Title I at Waimea Middle School
Title I, Part A (Title I) of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, as amended (ESEA) provides financial assistance to schools with high numbers or high percentages of children from low-income families to help ensure that all children meet challenging state academic standards. The purpose of Title I is to ensure that all children have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and reach, at a minimum, proficiency on challenging State academic achievement standards and state assessments.
Each year, Title I schools are required to conduct a Comprehensive Needs Assessment which is used to identify areas to be addressed in their Comprehensive Academic Plans. Once these documents are approved, the school receives an allocation which leads to a Fiscal Requirements Form (a Title I budget for the school year). At Waimea Middle School, we utilize our Title I funds to provide for personnel, tutoring, curriculum supplies and equipment, professional development, and family engagement programs and supplies. Each expense item must be justified by our Comprehensive Needs Assessment and our Comprehensive Academic Plan and must be utilized to improve student achievement.
